Albany International Airport might not be the busiest airport in the United States, but in the future, they aren’t going to lack any experience. After the retirement of Chief Financial Officer William O’Reilly, the Albany County Airport Authority went on the search for someone to fill his shoes. What they found was someone that’s had experience with the position in one of the world’s busiest airport departments.

Michael Zonsius is the new CFO with the ACAA. He came over from Chicago, where he held the same position with the Chicago Department of Aviation. Not only did he handle O’Hare International, one of the world’s busiest airports, but also handled the frequently used Midway International. Combined, the two airports see about 50 million people per year compared to around 10 million for Albany International.

It’s a big acquisition for Albany, as the airport continues to grow. In fact, it’s one of the nation’s fastest growing with new airlines and routes making their way to the capital city. It’s estimated that the amount of passengers has raised around 25 percent in the past few years, which makes Zonsius’ expertise in the field that much more important. He’ll oversee around $100 million in renovations to the airport, as well.
