There’s blueberry pie, blackberry pie, cherry pie, peach pie and just about any other fruit that you can think of. The one that we always come back to, though, is apple pie. It turns out that apple pie was actually created in Europe, but to many of us it will always be the All-American classic dessert. At least, that’s the way it is for me because of people like my grandmother that always made what I considered to be the best apple pie.

Every time that I see someone buy a premade apple pie or don’t make one from scratch, it seems that they might not know how easy it is to make a truly delicious one. Many of the ingredients that you need are already in your house, and it only takes around one hour to make an apple pie from scratch that will impress your entire family.

Apple pie has always been one of my favorite desserts, and I get so excited when I have the opportunity to show someone how to make one. Many assume that making a great one is difficult, but you can make it with ease. Your kitchen will smell so good that you might not want to wait until it’s done cooling after pulling it out of the oven!

You don’t have to be throwing a big party or entering into a pie making competition, as it’s easy enough to make your own apple pie that you can enjoy it for dessert in your own house! What makes apple pie one of my favorite desserts on top of that is the fact that you can leave it sitting out while covered, and you can warm it up the next day in a snap. It should still taste as good when it’s leftover apple pie, the way it was when you cut into that first slice!

Once your apple pie is ready, there’s even more that you can do with it. My personal favorite is having a scoop of cold ice cream with a slice of warm apple pie. Nothing feels quite like being at and enjoying the comforts of your home quite like that! Obviously it’s not something that you want to do on a daily basis, but it’s a great treat to have when you’re in the right mood!

Another reason why I love apple pie is because there’s really not a bad time in the year to eat a slice. The autumn months are usually associated with apple pie since that’s when apples are at their best. Coming from Michigan, apples are a big part of life, and it’s hard to step 10 feet in any direction without seeing an apple tree or someone that’s making apple pie. Of course, folks from the state of Washington will argue that they have the best apples, but that’s a debate for another day!

No matter what state or country you’re from, apple pie is a classic that pretty much all of us enjoy. There was even a survey that asked Americans what their favorite pie was, and apple pie won the vote by a large margin. It certainly had my vote, and we’ve heard about apple pie being truly American in songs and pop culture. There’s a good reason why, but if you really want the true slice of American apple pie, there’s a perfect way to do it.

Just follow these easy instructions to make an apple pie, and you’ll be able to get eight delicious slices in just a shade over one hour. The whip cream, ice cream or any other toppings you might want to add are optional, but there’s really no wrong way to eat this fantastic recipe that you’re sure to enjoy!

What You’ll Need:

  • 7 Cups Thinly Sliced and Peeled Tart Apples
  • 9 Inch Double-Crust Pastry
  • ½ Cup Sugar
  • ½ Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ Teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • ¼ Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 1 Large Egg
  • 3 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • Extra Sugar

Cooking Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees (190 celsius).
  2. Using a small bowl, combine the ½ cups of sugar and brown sugar, as well as your three tablespoons of flour, one teaspoon of cinnamon and ¼ teaspoons of both ginger and nutmeg. Once combined, set the bowl to the side.
  3. Take your nine inch pie plate and lay down the bottom layer of crust, trimming the pastry so that it’s even with the edge of the pan. Then in a large bowl, combine the seven cups of apples with one tablespoon of lemon juice and pinch of extra sugar, tossing the mixture so that the apples are coated.
  4. Pour the apple mixture onto the pie crust, dotting the pastry with butter. Once filled, place the remaining pastry on top of the mixture so that it perfectly fits the edge. Seal and flute the remaining edge, putting small slits into the pastry.
  5. Take your one large white egg, beating it until foamed. Then, brush the beaten egg on top of the pie, also sprinkling additional sugar on top. Cover the edges of your pie with foil.
  6. Place the apple pie into the oven for 25 minutes, taking it out afterward to remove the aluminum foil. When it’s removed, put the pie back into the oven for up to 25 additional minutes. It might be a few minutes less, as it will be finished when the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Remove the pie once again, placing it on a rack to cool. After about 15 minutes, your pie should be ready to slice into eight servings, making for a perfect dessert!
