“Dear Darla, I hate your stinking guts. You make me vomit. You’re scum between my toes! Love, Alfalfa.” Managing to make a career for himself despite being nicknamed “Bug,” Texas native Brandon Hall has done just that over the last two decades. So where did the nickname originate? When Hall’s mother tried to introduce the youngster to his kindergarten class, the five-year-old Hall insisted he be called “Bug,” a nickname that has stuck ever since. Luckily, Hollywood didn’t mind the nickname as Hall made his way to the silver screen in 1994 as the adorable, mischievous and freckle-faced Alfalfa in the remake of Our Gang known as The Little Rascals. An overnight star thanks to his stellar performance alongside Spanky, Darla, Stymie, Froggy, Porky and Buckwheat in the “He-Man Woman Haters Club,” Hall was propelled into a whirlwind over the next decade with films like The Big Green, The Stupids and Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, all while appearing in television films and as part of the main cast of the short-lived television series, Kelly Kelly. By the new millennium, Hall continued to act but settled for cameo appearances and sporadic gigs with some of his more notable acting credits including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Charmed, Cold Case and The O.C. But, his laid-back schedule and dwindling stardom didn’t last for long.

Despite many failing to recognize Hall from his earlier Alfalfa look with his bowtie, suspenders and cowlick, Hall has been incredibly busy lately as he works to redefine himself in Hollywood beyond his success with The Little Rascals. Now 31 years old, Hall skipped high school to hone his acting skills and is now trying to make up for lost time by giving himself a new image rooted in his passion for motorcycles. And, as luck would have it, that passion landed him a starring role that is set to make him even more visible than ever before—no cowlick required!

In 2016, The Little Rascals star turned motorcycle maniac snagged the starring role of Arthur Davidson in the Discovery Channel miniseries Harley and the Davidsons. The timing couldn’t have been better for the Texas native who has used social media to keep his fans in the loop. “[Harley and the Davidsons] was a dream come true. It literally brought me out of a mini retirement,” Hall said. So, just how big is Hall’s passion for motorcycles since it obviously landed him back in the spotlight? “I didn’t ever drive a car until a few years ago,” Hall admitted. “I’ve been cross country 10 plus times, then halfway cross country 40 times or so.”

While it’s certainly hard to imagine the Darla-loving, freckle-faced Alfalfa would grow up to becoming a motorcycle riding, beard-toting young adult, that’s exactly what happened! Even though Hall likes and embraces his new image and the opportunities ahead of him, he can’t deny his good fortune in landing the part of Alfalfa since it “scored him tons of chicks.” Outside of that, Hall says his favorite memory from the film is exactly what you might expect. “All the stuff at the clubhouse was a blast,” he recalled. “They actually built the thing on a hill overlooking Dodger Stadium. As a kid, it seemed so grand and magical.”

Beyond recently rekindling his stardom on the Discovery Channel, Hall has also taken the next steps toward settling down after recently tying the knot with longtime girlfriend, Porchia Stewart. However, he still managed to bring along a “little rascal” for support. After instantly connecting with Zachary Mabry, who played Porky, on the set of The Little Rascals, Hall and Mabry have been lifelong friends with Mabry even serving as a groomsman in Hall’s wedding. Together, the duo is instantly recognizable, which is something Hall appreciates even today. “When you get old and realize that we are part of a lot of people’s nostalgia, that’s a powerful thing.”

Obviously doing just fine for himself these days, Hall is incredibly happy with his life and somehow managed to escape the most common traps of alcoholism and addiction unlike so many other child stars. In fact, he attributes his grounded lifestyle to his passion for motorcycles because, outside of acting, he says, “I spent most of my life on the bike.” With absolutely no regrets, Hall may be looking for a second chapter in Hollywood but you won’t catch him ever dabbling in politics. In the aftermath of the 2016 election, Hall proved he’s as funny as ever as he tweeted, “Instead of watching the debate, I decided to eat a whole can of Spam and look at a wall.” Looks like some things—especially Hall’s sense of humor—will never change.
