In any city, there’s always going to be a lot of conversation and competition as to who will be considered the best restaurant in town. While it’s certainly subjective because there are so many different types of restaurants that can appeal to different people and their tastes and other preferences, there are some that people generally agree are among the best. Here in Albany, there are a handful of restaurants (with no chain restaurants included) that were declared the tops, and here are the five highest rated:
The Cuckoo’s Nest - It’s one of the newer restaurants in Albany, having been opened in 2017, and it has been a hotspot ever since. The Cuckoo’s Nest focuses on southern food, giving off a warm reception with a full bar and delicious cocktails.
What People Are Saying: “Such great food and an amazing staff. My family and I have been going here for a little over a year and the food is consistently delicious...super welcoming and friendly.”
Druthers Brewing Company - Built out of what used to be a warehouse, Druthers offers wood fired pizza to go along with burgers and beer, which has caught the eyes of a lot of people locally.
What People Are Saying: “Nothing really screamed that it was the best beer ever, but all of them were good. Service was tremendous. Very lively and fun atmosphere.”
The Albany Ale & Oyster - If you like craft beer and oysters (which is a lot of you), there are few spots even outside of Albany that you’ll find to be on par with Albany Ale & Oyster.
What People Are Saying: “What an amazing experience! The roasted oysters were delicious and the brown butter poached lobster was amazing! The service was also fantastic!”
Iron Gate Cafe - A very classical and cozy place, the Iron Gate Cafe on Washington Avenue has been a local favorite for a long time now during breakfast and lunch hours.
What People Are Saying: “Great atmosphere and architecture...Their service was top notch with friendly staff and fantastic food at a great price.”
Mazadar Mediterranean Kitchen - Kabob places might not be very frequent in Albany, but the Mazadar Mediterranean Kitchen is all you need with their taste that has been described as NYC-worthy.
What People Are Saying: “Amazing food! The kabobs are so delicious, correctly seasoned and soft. The plate is big and has an equally fragrant rice, bread and salad on the side.”
