Every year, I have a party for the Super Bowl, and it seems that more and more people are coming over to my house with each game. I’ve been told that the reason why so many are wanting to come is to try my chicken wings that I always make. Since I live in a colder area, it’s hard to get the grill out to make wings for the big game, but I’ve found something that’s just as good (if not better).

Using a slow cooker (like my trusty Crockpot), I’m able to make some delicious wings that end up being a huge hit at the party. It takes about four and a half hours from start to finish to make the wings to perfection, but the time is definitely worth it, especially as the smell gets all the way through the house. It just smells like you’re about to have a big football watching party.

You don’t need to be an expert to make these wings for your party, either, and clean-up can be pretty simple if you’re using a liner for your slow cooker. Back when I started making these wings, I usually just left them on a simmer throughout the day in the slow cooker so that we could graze on them throughout the game.

Many people will claim that they make the best wings for their Super Bowl party, but I’ve been told that this recipe is a favorite for everyone that’s tried it. It can be hard to find the perfect wings as Super Bowl Sunday, especially with an estimated 1.3 billion chicken wings being consumed on that day alone. For this recipe, you can make about 30 to 40 wings, that helps bump that total up this year.

So if you don’t want to stand outside in the freezing cold and try to get the grill to work, this is the best way to make everyone at your party happy while getting to stay warm. These wings aren’t just for football, either, as they’re a great addition to any party and are easy to take to a potluck thanks to the slow cooker.

If you’re ready to get started, there really isn’t much you’ll need to pick up from the grocery store. Outside of the wings themselves, you’ll likely only have to get some wing sauce as most people will already have the other ingredients (onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, butter and Worcestershire sauce). If you’re a bit short on time, you can also skip the part where you place the wings into the oven, as long as you don’t mind some very tender wings that fall right off of the bone.

I’ve tried it both ways, and it always seems to end up working out better than fine. In fact, one time that I skipped the oven and went with the super tender wings, I was able to peel off the chicken from the bone pretty easily and made Buffalo chicken sandwiches the next day for lunch. That is, however, back when I still had leftovers of these wings.

So let’s take a look at what you’ll need to get started and some quick facts about these delicious wings. What You’ll Need:

  • 4 Pounds of Frozen Chicken Wings, Thawed
  • 1 Cup of Butter
  • 2 Bottles (12 Ounces Each) of Hot Sauce (I prefer Frank’s Wing Sauce)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 Teaspoons of Onion Powder
  • 2 Teaspoons of Garlic Powder
  • 2 Teaspoons of Dried Oregano

Cooking Directions:

  1. To get started, we’ll first focus on the stovetop, setting it to a medium heat. Using your saucepan, combine one of your hot sauce bottles with ½ a cup of butter, as well as your Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder and oregano. Bring this mixture to a boil, reducing the heat to low and allowing it to simmer for five minutes. Don’t put your saucepan in the sink just yet, though!
  2. Take your four pounds of chicken wings and placing them into the slow cooker, pouring the entire mixture onto the wings. Set the slow cooker to high, cooking it for two hours. Then, without taking off the cover, cook for two more hours.
  3. Now that the slow cooking is getting close to finishing up, set your oven to 400 degrees (200 degrees Celsius) and prepare multiple baking sheets with grease. How many you’ll need depends on the size of the wings.
  4. Place the wings on the baking sheets and then into the oven, allowing them to cook for around 30 minutes. You’ll know when the wings are finished when they start to get crispy and browned on the outside.
  5. While the wings are in the oven, get your saucepan back out and melt ½ a cup of butter with another bottle of hot sauce. Once the mixture is thickened (usually takes 15 to 20 minutes), brush this mixture onto the wings. Then, you’re ready to serve and enjoy the game! You can also keep the wings in the slow cooker at a low temperature to keep them warm for the entire party!
